Nerd Girl Industries Presents Issue #15 NGI is Traveling!

Hey Reader!

Welcome to Issue #15 of NGI Presents!

Adding Services

NGI picked up a new client last week who needed help securing their email, which led to discovering his domain was hosted at three places for various reasons, and we also found a few other issues. After unraveling the problem, he should be sorted out this week if the Internet is agreeable. The client and NGI also talked about other stuff NGI could provide for him now that Mr. Lisa is on board to give the heavier tech or tech I was familiar with outside of creating and managing online presences. I was hesitant to add these services to my list before Mr. Lisa came on board, but I've done some of the local work, from installing printers and anti-virus software to creating accounts on Amazon.

With Mr. Lisa as an employee of NGI, we can take on more work. We are determining the work's scope and how to promote it. This will also require reorganizing and updating the website, which is fine. I handle the website stuff myself.

With the addition of new services, the Operational Guide and onboarding form I send to potential clients need to be updated.

Advertising will also need to be adjusted.

Mr. Lisa and I have a lot to do in the next few weeks!

NGI is Going to Niagara Falls, Canada!

After gnawing off the fingernails (not really), I've been officially accepted to present at Romance Writers of America's Annual Conference. The topic is "Information Literacy: Research Beyond Google and AI." The presentation was rejected for one of their online conferences because they wanted to bring it to a bigger audience. Who cares! I'm going to Niagara Falls!

Compensation is a comped ticket for the conference (value of $499). Since I'm presenting as NGI, I can write off travel, food, and hotel expenses. The trip will be pretty cheap, with the Canadian dollar being what it is (70¢ to every 1 American dollar). I'm also starting to earn enough from clients to pay for the trip in cash, so that's nice.

Update to Our Website, Operational Guide, and Onboarding Form

As we've gotten new clients and new requests for services, all our material needs to be updated. Look for updates on our website, Operational Guide, and Onboarding Form.

(Note: If you're an existing client, you'll be sent the new Operational Guide and fees remain what you signed with for the rest of 2025.)

New Fees

Mr. Lisa and I are in the process of creating our fee structure based upon client requests and services. We're cost comparing across other companies to make sure we're not over or under charging ourselves.

(Note: If you're an existing NGI client, fees remain the same with what you signed for for the rest of 2025.)

Tech Tip

Social Media Tips is now Tech Tip! With the add on of new services and products, it's time to spread the love.

Tip: Update your software on a regular basis.

Why: Simply put: sometimes new technology breaks old technology and computer programmers create patches to fix what's broken. Additionally, updating your software may also include new features or more robust features. Lastly, it helps protect you from hackers and malware.

Both Windows and Mac automatically download their operating system updates but typically request permission before they install. If you download your apps from Microsoft Store, it will notify you when your apps are ready to be updated. If you use third-party apps from other locations, Patch My PC (free) is recommended. If you're on a Mac, the App Store will notify you when your apps need an update. If you use third-party apps, I love MacUpdate Desktop which is back but in private beta (which I'm on).

Some apps will notify you when the app needs to be updated, as well.

While it can be overwhelming maintaining your computer, I recommend setting time once a week or every few weeks to check for updates.

Meme of the Week

See you in a few weeks!

Thursday sat on my lap because it was the closest to the fire. She's a sucker for cozy. Hey Reader! Welcome to Issue #16 of NGI Presents! Advertising Your Business In the past, I talked about advertising NGI to gain clientele. I've done digital, print, direct marketing, and flyers. Mr. Lisa told me that if you get a 1% return rate of your advertising dollars, you're doing well in the sales world. I've gotten clients from digital, print, and flyers. The problem, however, is that those...

Thursday looking stately and magnificent. Hey Reader! I spent the other day creating my workshop page on my website. Here, you will find what workshops I offer (in a one-hour webinar or four-week email class formats) and where I'm teaching next. Did I mention the best part is I'm getting paid to do this? Maybe at some point I can make a few bucks off of time invested vs how much I'm getting paid. My first four-week class ended last week and it was a lot of fun! I sent out lectures 3x a week...

(No Thursday image this week as Kit is having issues loading images.) Hey Reader! The Lisa Rabey Empire As my empire grows, I've created a one-stop shop for all things Lisa at lisarabey.com. How is this different than my linktr.ee landing page? I needed a place to direct clients, workshop coordinators, and others interested in me with links to various Empire websites along with descriptions of theose websites. linktr.ee doesn't offer an option to describe the link, hence the new website....
